Back Doctor Information

Back Doctor Information

If you're suffering from a spinal condition that's causing pain and other uncomfortable symptoms, then you may be searching for back doctor information to help you figure out what type of professional to go see. There are many types of back doctors, and depending on your condition and its severity, you may want to see more than one type of doctor.

However, before you can determine the best doctor for your needs, you must get a diagnosis for your back condition, which involves going to see your general practitioner. He or she can help you narrow down potential causes of your discomfort. From there, your doctor may recommend a specialist based on what he or she thinks the condition may be so you can receive a complete diagnosis.

Back doctors can be divided into several categories based on their specialty, and these include:

Orthopedists - This type of doctor deals with the musculoskeletal system as a whole, but there are subsets within this category that focus specifically on the spine. They would look at issues like a bulging or herniated disc, sciatica, or pinched nerve.

Neurologists - Neurologists work with the nervous system, and they can help if your back issue is relating to nerve damage such as from a stroke or a degenerative disease.

Rheumatologists - Focused on joints, muscles, and bones, rheumatologists are usually concerned with facet joint disease and arthritis when they work with back pain patients. They may also be able to help with osteoporosis.

Surgeons - Usually orthopedic doctors, spine surgeons focus on the physical treatment of a condition rather than diagnosis or conservative treatments like pain medications. Most people with back issues will not need to see a surgeon because their condition is not severe enough to warrant such a surgical procedure.

For more back doctor information, or to request that one of our spine doctors review your MRI or CT scan free of charge, contact Laser Spine Institute. We'll be happy to determine if you're a candidate for one of our endoscopic spine procedures as well as discuss all your potential treatments with you.
